PONTOTOC – A former bookkeeper for South Pontotoc School has been arrested and charged with embezzlement.
On Thursday, special agents from the Office of the State Auditor arrested Dianne Barefield.
OSA’s Investigative Division received a complaint alleging money was missing from the club and activity accounts at South Pontotoc School. Following an investigation, evidence was presented to a Pontotoc County grand jury, which returned an indictment resulting in Barefield’s arrest.
She has been charged with embezzlement, and OSA issued a demand of $62,646.29 to Barefield, which covered the loss, interest and cost of recovery.
She is scheduled to appear in Pontotoc County Circuit Court on May 30.
Barefield was employed by South Pontotoc from 1999 until May 28, 2014.
