TUPELO – The partial lockdown at three Tupelo Schools has been lifted.
Tupelo Middle, Pierce Street Elementary and the Fillmore Center – all located near one another – were placed on the partial lockdown at 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday. That was in response to an individual on the Pierce Street campus "inquiring in an unusual manner about volunteering in our schools," according to a press release from the school district.
"TPSD was proactive in ensuring that staff and students were safe by contacting the Tupelo Police Department and by implementing a partial lockdown," the press release said.
A partial lockdown means that exterior doors are locked, but students and teachers can still move within the building.
"At this time, all campuses are considered safe," the press release said. "TPSD would like to thank the Tupelo Police Department, security staff and administrators for their prompt response."
