Alberder Gillespie, formerly Alberder Hampton and a native of Aberdeen, has been appointed to the school board in South Washington County in Minnesota.
She will complete an unexpired term vacated by a member's resignation and will serve one year. After that year, she would need to run for the position if she wishes to continue on the school board.
Gillespie is the daughter of Melvin "Jody" Hampton and Mary Alice Barber. She graduated from Aberdeen High School in May 1988 and from Purdue University in Indiana in 1992, then did graduate work at Mississippi State University. Gillespie owns and operates a consulting firm, Collaborative Connections. She resides in Woodbury, Minn., a suburb of St. Paul, with her husband Frederick Gillespie, a 1986 graduate of AHS and an engineer for 3M Corp., and their children, Gabriella and Frederick II.
A lifelong proponent of education, Gillespie has worked tirelessly as a volunteer for several years in the school district where she now serves on the board. She identified the most pressing issues facing the school district as student achievement; recruiting, retaining and developing a highly qualified and culturally competent staff; and effecively preparing for future growth.
