Hed: Itawamba jury chosen to hear capital murder case

FULTON - On Wednesday, 16 Itawamba County residents were chosen as jurors and alternates to hear a Senatobia capital murder case.

The jury will hear the case against William Ray Hughes in connection with the rape, robbery and murder of Ashley Galloway, a 16-year-old Senatobia girl who was killed in January.

The jury, which will be sequestered for the duration of the trial, was chosen in Itawamba County because of pretrial publicity in Senatobia. The trial will be held in Batesville at the Panola County Courthouse. The opening arguments and testimony are set to begin today.

About 50 prospective jurors were told to come for the second day of jury selection on Wednesday with their bags packed, said Itawamba Circuit Clerk Carol Gates. The jurors were told to be prepared to be away from home for a week and a half.
