HED: Pontotoc leadership groups set to graduate

PONTOTOC - The Pontotoc Leadership 1997 class will graduate tonight in a 7 p.m. ceremony at the Pontotoc High School commons area featuring motivational speaker Frank Melton, president and chief executive officer of WLBT television in Jackson.

Pontotoc Leadership is a group whose goal is to enhance the leadership skills of community members. Participants are divided into groups and each group takes on a project to benefit the county.

This year's class of 20 convened in January and divided into four groups. Their projects included putting up welcome signs in the county, devising a youth leadership program much like its own for high school juniors and printing a brochure detailing youth activities in the area.

Another team is still raising the $16,000 needed to install playground equipment at the Pontotoc Ridge Park on Mississippi Highway 15.

Tickets for tonight's graduation are available from team members. For more information, call the Pontotoc County Chamber of Commerce at 489-5042.
