HED:Presley Lake may open to public April 1
Officials are looking for an April 1 opening of Elvis Presley Lake's public facilities following renewal of a pact between Lee County and other agencies Monday.
Under the pact, the lake's owner, Tombigbee River Valley Water Management District, will guarantee most of the funding while Three Rivers Planning and Development District will operate the facilities. The county, through which funding is handled, will obligate up to $20,000 for operations if it is needed.
Officials said most of the facility's operations are funded through user fees. The lake offers fishing, boating, picnicking and other activities to the public.
The pact is identical to one approved last year after Tupelo dropped operation of the lake facilities. Because of delays in drawing the agreement, the lake did not open until May last year.
It is scheduled to remain open this year until Sept. 30, although that could be extended on weekends through October as it was last year.
