Hed: Three car theft suspects to be extradited to Florida
CORINTH - Three men suspected of stealing a vehicle have waived extradition and are awaiting transfer to Panama City, Fla., on a variety of charges.
Corinth Police Chief Fred Johnson said the three were picked up at 9:45 p.m. Wednesday after someone reported that three intoxicated men driving a gray pickup were eying the cars in the Kroger parking lot.
Two officers were sent to the scene and stopped the three as they were preparing to leave the store, Johnson said. A 12-gauge shotgun with the serial number filed off was discovered in the truck at the time of the arrests.
The men - Robert W. Blackwell, 25, Destin, Fla.; Donald C. Yancey, 21, Opelika, Ala.; and, George C. Omerly, 26, Panama City Beach, Fla. - were arrested and held on warrants issued on grand larceny charges by the Bay County Sheriff's Department in Panama City. Other charges facing one or all of the men include burglary and larceny of a dwelling, car theft, strong-arm robbery and assault, Johnson said.
All three have verbally waived extradition so no charges will be filed in Alcorn County, Johnson said.
"It sounds like they are already in enough trouble in Florida without getting into more up here," he said.
