HOLLY SPRINGS At least four people died in wrecks Saturday in Marshall County.

A 12:30 p.m. wreck on state Highway 4 about eight miles west of Holly Springs claimed the lives of a Holly Springs woman and two Chicago area women.

Passengers Narcissus King, 86, and Lillie M. Anderson, King's 63-year-old daughter, both of South Prairie, Ill., died in a head-on collision, said Marshall County Coroner Chuck Thomas.

The driver of their four-door Cadillac, King's son-in-law, was not seriously injured. His name was not immediately unavailable.

The Cadillac collided with a 1970s Chevrolet driven by Kent Beard of Holly Springs, Thomas said. Beard's wife, Edna, was flown to the Regional Medical Center in Memphis, where she was pronounced dead, a hospital official said.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol worked the accident but officials at the patrol's Batesville headquarters could not provide any information.

Earlier Saturday, a 28-year-old Lamar man died in a single-car crash on Highway 178 West just inside the Holly Springs city limits.

Dale McCullough, a Wright's Texaco employee, was driving a wrecker into town when the accident occurred at about 4 a.m.

"He appeared to have gone to sleep," Thomas said. "There was no one that saw what happened."

McCullough's truck crossed the opposite lane, went into a ditch and struck a telephone pole. Thomas pronounced him dead on the scene.
