HOUSTON - The Chickasaw County Sheriff's Department is investigating the shooting death of a 51-year-old Houston resident who was found dead in her home shortly after 8 p.m. Friday.
Neighbors reportedly went to visit Linda Byers at her Highway 32 East home, located in the Wesley Chapel community about five miles north of Houston, looked through a window and saw her laying on the floor. They then notified authorities.
Sheriff Jimmy Simmons said robbery was apparently not the motive behind the shooting of the long-time Chickasaw County resident, who had lived alone in the house since her husband died about two years ago.
"This isn't robbery," he said. "This is cold, brutal murder. I don't see any explanation for it."
An autopsy report is expected to be released today or Monday, officials said.
