Levite Jones

KANSAS CITY, Kan. Levite Jones, 79, died Wednesday, March 12, 1997, at the Kansas City Veterans Hospital. He was formerly of Holly Springs. He was a masonry worker and worked at Obee Coal and Materials in Kansas City.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at St. Mark M.B. Church with the Rev. Gifton Jones officiating. Burial will be in the Ayers Cemetery in Lake Center. J.F. Brittenum & Sons Funeral Home of Holly Springs is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Ever Lee Faulkner-Jones of Kansas City, Kan.; three daughters, Mary Lee Jones-Cofield of Carson, Calif., Marjean Jones-Watson of Long Beach, Calif., and Elizabeth Binion Hood of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; five sons, Herbert L. Jones Sr., Ted S. Jones and Jerry S. Jones, all of Kansas City, Kan., Hugh Faulkner-Jones of Lansing, Mich., and Thomas A. Jones of Long Beach, Calif.; two sisters, Mae Lovie Freeman of Holly Springs and Lenora Johnson of Chicago, Ill.; one brother, Sylvester Jones of Holly Springs; 18 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Brandon McCrary, Gilbert Jones, Derrick Jones, John Watson Jr., Christopher Watson, Anthony Binion, Andre' Binion, Jerry Jones Jr., David Jones, Herbert Jones Jr., Jarius Jones, Ted L. Jones and Christopher Cooper.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. today at the funeral home. The body will lie in state from noon until 1 p.m. Tuesday at the church.

Geneva Benefield

RIPLEY Lois Geneva Benefield, 77, died Saturday, March 15, 1997, at the Tippah County Hospital in Ripley. She was a homemaker and a Pentecostal. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Fred Benefield in 1995.

Services will be at 1 p.m. today at the McBride Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Herman Hancock officiating and Bro. Ricky Luna assisting. Burial will be in the Tippah Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Ripley.

Survivors include one daughter, Hermie Koon and her husband, James, of Ripley; two sons, Wayne Benefield and his wife, Earlene, of Ripley and Bobby Benefield and his wife, Diane, of Ripley; one sister, Juanita Sanderson of Ripley; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Mayfield, Eddie Tomlinson, Darrell Hurt, Jerry Cockrell, Mack Ketchum and Phil Koon.

Estelle Barnes

BURNSVILLE Estelle Barnes, 87, died Sunday, March 16, 1997, at the Magnolia Hospital in Corinth. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Cutshall Funeral Home.

Mary Bradford

MEMPHIS Mary Todd Bradford, 93, died Friday, March 14, 1997, at the Methodist Hospital in Germantown. She was born Nov. 20, 1903, in Benton County, to Lee Roy Todd and Mary Elizabeth Duncan. She was a sales lady at Lowenstein's Department Store. She was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church. She was the widow of Burmond O. Bradford.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Holly Springs Funeral Home with Bro. Jeff Hawkins officiating. Burial will be in the Pine Grove Cemetery.

Survivors include three daughters, Reba B. Miller of Murphreesboro, Tenn., Betty B. Doyle of Spartenburg, S.C., and Glenda B. Bowen of Memphis; nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons.

Visitation will be at 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Myrtle R. Shelton

RIPLEY Myrtle R. Shelton, 87, died Sunday, March 16, 1997, at the Tippah County Hospital. She was a homemaker and a member of the Ripley Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Lee Shelton.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the McBride Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Patrick Chapman officiating. Burial will be in the Antioch Cemetery.

Survivors include two sons, James Lonnie Shelton of Millington, Tenn., and Terrell Shelton of Memphis; two sisters, Jenia Barkley of Ripley and Lessie Bryant of Cotton Plant; one brother, Clarence Roberson of Memphis; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4 until 9 p.m. today.

Gertrude Mercer

MEMPHIS Gertrude Shinall Mercer, 78, died Saturday, March 15, 1997, at the Shelby County Health Care Center. She was a Baptist and a retired restaurant worker. She was the widow of Troy William Mercer. She was the daughter of the late George Washington Shinall and Patie Etta Dees Shinall.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today at the Ripley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bobby Biggs officiating. Burial will be in the Criswell Cemetery.

Survivors include one daughter, Shirley Stepp of Brighton, Tenn.; one sister, Eruthie Leatherwood of Memphis; two brothers, Melvin Shinall and Fred Shinall, both of Ripley; three grandchildren, Vickie Foust of Brighton, Tenn., Bobbie Biggs of Atlanta, Ga., and Sonny Biggs of Rose Mark, Tenn.; two great-grandchildren, Steven Joseph Biggs and Nicholas Alan Biggs.

Clyde Orman

ASHLAND Clyde "Pink" Orman died Sunday, March 16, 1997, at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Ripley Funeral Home.

Gaston Ford

MT. PLEASANT Gaston Coy Ford, 88, died Saturday, March 15, 1997, at the Heritage Manor Nursing Home. He was born March 12, 1909, in Potts Camp to Rube Ford and Mary Alderson. He was a member of Abundant Harvest Church of God. He was a farmer, a dairyman and a factory worker.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Holly Springs Funeral Home with Bro. Jack Gregory and Bro. Odell Mackey officiating. Burial will be in the Magnolia Cemetery in Collierville, Tenn.

Survivors include his wife, Johnnie Bumpas Ford of Mt. Pleasant; one son, Robert Ford of Mobile, Ala.; three daughters, Jearline Ford Walker, Stella Ford Walker and Betty Ford Yager, all of Collierville, Tenn.; three stepdaughters, Ann Bumpas of Mt. Pleasant, Linda Campbell of Columbus and Deborah Breedlove of Michigan City; 10 grandchildren, five step grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, four step great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Matt Harris, Jimmy Huddleston, Kent Bumpas, Mike Breedlove, Manny Sanchez, Leon Burchette, Mike Rial, Gerald Campbell and Dale Rogers.

Honorary pallbearers will be his grandsons.

Chester Edwards Jr.

WEST POINT Chester Edwards Jr., 72, died Thursday, March 13, 1997, at the Clay County Medical Center. He was a retired grader operator of Clay County District II. He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Chuckie Edwards Sr.; and a son, Richard Edwards.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Strong Hill M.B. Church. Burial will be in the Strong Hill M.B. Church Cemetery. Carter's Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Dunlap Edwards; one daughter, Mary Helen McFarland of West Point; nine sons, T. Russell Edwards, Jeff Edwards, Aaron James Edwards and Jerry Edwards, all of West Point, Aaron Peg Edwards of Starkville, Willie Louis Edwards of Ridge Crest, Calif., William Edwards of Jackson, Isaac Edwards of Tupelo and Jimmy Edwards of St. Louis, Mo.; three brothers, George Edwards and Louis Dunlap, both of West Point and Sherman Edwards of Chicago; 38 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Silas Blackman, Curtis Davis, Willie Moore and his grandsons.

J.B. Patterson

RED BAY, Ala. J.B. Patterson, 76, died Saturday, March 15, 1997, at his residence. He was a native of Alabama, a member of the Holiness Church and retired from the A&P Produce Co. after 30 years.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today in the Ridge Cemetery with the Rev. Gene Cooley and Dean Deaton officiating. Deaton Funeral Home of Red Bay is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Patterson of Red Bay, Ala.; three daughters, Dorthy Locklear of Vina, Ala., Peggy Mason of Fulton and Crystal Miears of Dallas, Ga.; five sons, Albert Lee Patterson, Donald Patterson and Mark Patterson, all of Red Bay, Ala., John Patterson and Epam Patterson, both of Vina, Ala.; 25 grandchildren; two sisters, Edna Richardson of Booneville and Rosie Scott of Red Bay, Ala.; several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Joe Patterson, Raymond Humphries and Larry Jones.
