Mooreville man arrested on gambling, drug charges
MOOREVILLE - An anonymous tip led Lee County Vice Narcotics officers to arrest a Mooreville man on charges of operating an illegal gambling establishment and for possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, according to Lee County Sheriff Harold Ray Presley.
Arrested was Jimmy C. King, 29, No. 366, Mississippi Highway 178, Mooreville, Presley said. King has been released from the Lee County Jail on a $1,100 bond.
Confiscated at the time of arrest were two gambling machines, two illegal punch boards, a quarter of an ounce of marijuana and $56.50 in cash.
Five arrested in Shannon drug sweep
SHANNON - Lee County Sheriff Harold Ray Presley said five more people suspected of dealing in crack cocaine have been arrested in Shannon as part of an ongoing drug investigation being conducted by the Lee County Vice Narcotics Unit and the Shannon Police Department.
Four adults and a 16-year-old juvenile were recently arrested as part of that investigation. As of Sunday afternoon the adults were still being held in the Lee County Jail and the juvenile in the Lee County Juvenile Detention Center.
Eric Beene, 22, Route 6, Tupelo, was arrested on two counts of selling crack cocaine. Willard "Panama" Perry, 33, Route 1, Shannon, is being charged with two counts of selling crack cocaine. Doris Miller, 42, a resident of Shannon Rental Apartments, is charged with two counts of selling crack cocaine. Steve Johnson, 38, Box 5001, Nettleton is being charged with one count of selling crack cocaine. The juvenile is being charged with three counts of selling crack cocaine.
Seized in the arrest was a 1989 Ford Mustang convertible, Presley said.
