TUPELO - A Lee County man is in jail after he allegedly strapped his older brother to a trailer and left him out in the sun.
Charles E. Clifford, 46, of Mooreville, was arrested July 3 and charged with injury of a vulnerable adult. He is being held in the Lee County Jail on a $25,000 bond.
Lee County deputy sheriffs responded to a residence in Mooreville June 26 to assist with a medical call. They found a 65-year-old vulnerable man strapped to a utility trailer, suffering from dehydration and severe sunburns.
According to Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson, the victim had been released from a medical center on a pass for a family outing. A family member told the facility that the victim would have around the clock care due to his condition. Instead, the victim was taken to another county.
"The victim had been left outside in the elements with no shade and placed on a utility trailer using a winch to load the victim on it," Johnson said. "The suspect then strapped the victim to the utility trailer and drove to a residence in Lee County."
After being treated for his injuries at the North Mississippi Medical Center, the victim was released to another medical facility.
