OXFORD • A member of the Oxford Police Department was arrested Monday night and charged in connection with a Sunday homicide.

Officials said Matthew Kinne had been with the department four years. The actual charge against Kinne was not released.

“Due to the fact we are early in the investigation, we will refrain from making comments that could jeopardize the case,” said Mississippi Bureau of Investigation spokesman Capt. Johnny Poulos.

Officers responding to 1009 Suncrest Drive around 2 p.m. May 19 found the body of Dominique Lashelle Clayton, 32.

OPD immediately called in MBI as an outside agency to take over the investigation once they realized one of their officers might be involved.

“We want to assure the community that we will not hide behind our badge,” said interim Police Chief Jeff McCutchen.

Neither OPD nor MBI fielded questions from the media during a Tuesday press conference to announce the arrest.

“Once the investigation is complete, all the facts and findings will be turned over to the District Attorney’s office,” Poulos said.saieos%2F599056380504908%2F&show_text=0&width=560” frameborder=”0” scrolling=”no” width=”560” height=”315”}{/iframe}
