JACKSON - State College Board members Tuesday selected two "preferred candidates" for the president positions at Alcorn State University and the University of Southern Mississippi.

Hattiesburg native Martha Dunagin Saunders, most recently chancellor at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, was selected for the Southern Miss candidacy.

George Ross was named as the top candidate for the job as Alcorn's president. The Utica native is currently the vice president of finance and administration at Central Michigan University.

The announcement was made at a news conference in Jackson after two board meetings to discuss candidates, according to a www.clarionledger.com article.
