TUPELO – Community Shred Day is coming back to Tupelo and this year Magnolia Data Solutions has joined the cast of sponsors to help people destroy digital data along with hard copies.
Anyone can bring their old documents to the Walmart on North Gloster Street where a shredding station will be set up in the parking lot from 7:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. March 7.
The shred day is an effort to promote awareness of and to help prevent identity theft, one of the fastest-growing crimes in the state.
Anyone who participates also will be given a card good for one visit to Magnolia Data Solutions in Jackson for digital data disposal. Magnolia Data Solutions will destroy data on any electronic equipment, like computers and hard drives.
Up to five bags or boxes of data can be shredded and as much digital data equipment can be destroyed, as long as it doesn’t have glass parts.
The shred day is not open to businesses.
The event is provided by the Attorney General’s and Secretary of State’s offices, Cintas, BancorpSouth, ClearPoint Credit Counseling Solutions, the Better Business Bureau and Mississippi State University Extension Service.
