JACKSON - The South Pontotoc Lady Cougars focused nine days of nervous inactivity well early, then held off the Hazlehurst Lady Indians 77-69 Monday afternoon in semifinal action of the Class 3A State Basketball Tournament.

South Pontotoc will now face Southeast Lauderdale in the 3A championship game Friday at 1 p.m. at the Mississippi Coliseum. Southeast Lauderdale features Monique Horner, the all-time leading girls scorer in Mississippi high school history.

"I don't know what percentage we shot, but I thought we shot the ball well and knocked down some pretty big shots," South Pontotoc coach Tim Wilder said.

Emily Waldrop paced the usually balanced South Pontotoc offense with 22 points, including eight key free throws in the final three minutes. April Reeder added 19 for South Pontotoc which led 46-36 at the half and held which held a 58-40 lead at one point.
