State representative recovering from stroke
State Rep. Billy Bowles, D-Houston, was listed in guarded condition at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo after suffering a stroke Friday morning.
House Speaker Tim Ford, D-Tupelo, said Bowles is expected to make a complete recovery.
"He did have a light stroke," Ford said. "... He is recovering and should recover. He is feeling good and is in great spirits. His feeling is beginning to return to the side that was affected."
Marsha Tapscott, a hospital spokeswoman, said Bowles was admitted about 11 a.m. Friday.
Bowles first was elected to the Mississippi Legislature in 1984. He represents District 22, which covers most of Chickasaw and small portions of Lee and Monroe counties.
Bowles serves as chairman of the Oil, Gas and Other Minerals Committee and the PEER Committee in the House.
