Three people have been arrested in connection with the Sunday death of a 46-year-old Tupelo man.

Jamarcus D. Shumpert, 18, of 475 S. Green St., was arraigned Monday in Lee County Justice Court and charged with murder after the death of Jimmie Lewis Collier, 46, of Magazine Street.

A second suspect, Connigan "Cornell" Judon, 17, was arrested by special operations officers late Monday afternoon in Tupelo after a 24-hour search. He was expected to be arraigned today.

A 16-year-old juvenile suspect is also in custody, said Tupelo police Detective Scott Floyd.

Collier died Sunday at North Mississippi Medical Center from injuries he suffered Friday after being attacked, Floyd said. The exact cause of death won't be determined until the results of an autopsy are available, he said.

Tupelo police were called Friday night to the intersection of Chestnut and South Green streets, where witnesses said a man was lying in the street.

The man, identified as Collier, was hospitalized with head injuries that witnesses said were caused by kicking and stomping, Floyd said. These witnesses also told police the attack on Collier was unprovoked.

The investigation led to Shumpert, who was arrested and initially charged with aggravated assault.

Judge Pat Carr set bond for Shumpert at $1 million and appointed Will Bristow as his attorney.
