Tupelo firefighters were able to keep a Tuesday afternoon house fire confined to the kitchen of a Rankin Street home.

The residents of 215 Rankin St. called 911 at 5:08 p.m. after smoke detectors sounded and they saw flames inside kitchen cabinets, said Tupelo Assistant Fire Chief Andy LaValley. All of the people in the house got out safely and no injuries were reported.

Most of the fire damage to the house was confined to the kitchen, LaValley said.

The cause of the fire was still under investigation but firefighters believe the blaze started around the dishwasher.
