OXFORD - Have an ill? Schedule Ole Miss.
The Rebels seem to be the perfect cure.
Last year, Vanderbilt invaded Vaught-Hemingway Stadium without a Southeastern Conference road win in five years.
The Commodores' streak ended with a 37-34 overtime victory.
When the Rebels traveled to Tuscaloosa Oct. 14 this season, they faced an Alabama team in turmoil and a quarterback without confidence.
The Crimson Tide easily won, 45-7, while Andrew Zow performed like a Heisman Trophy candidate en route to breaking several school records.
Since that outing, Bama has lost to Tennessee, Central Florida, LSU and Mississippi State.
Then there's the Bayou Bengals, who entered Saturday's outing against Ole Miss losers of 10 consecutive SEC road games.
Another streaks ends following LSU's 20-9 win.
Play of the Game
Trailing 14-9 following a field goal by Les Binkley with 7 minutes, 21 seconds left in the game, Ole Miss need a big play from its defense.
Instead, it got burned.
With LSU facing third-and-8 from the Ole Miss 39, quarterback Josh Booty connected with receiver Josh Reed for a 38-yard gain to the Rebels' 1-yard line. Ole Miss lost its fight, and the Tigers scored on the next play to put the game out of reach.
Stat of the Game
Against a LSU defense ranked No. 8 in the SEC at stopping the run (141.2), Ole Miss totaled just 73 yards rushing on 34 carries, while the Tigers netted 170.
Last year in Baton Rouge, the Rebels torched LSU with 323 yards on the ground, including 140 by Deuce McAllister. Saturday, he was held to 48 yards on 24 carries.
Quotable
"This was a tremendous win for us. We got the job done. We kept plugging, and (Ole Miss) couldn't stop us. Finally, we got a road win." - Louis Williams, LSU offensive tackle.
"We missed too many opportunities (Saturday) on offense. You can't win a game like this when you throw away that many chances." - David Cutcliffe, Ole Miss coach.
