VERONA – The Verona Police Department has a suspect in custody for the shooting of 17-year-old Lorenzo Wright Jr. on Thursday, Chief J.B. Long confirmed Saturday.

Long said bond would be set early Monday morning at the Lee County Justice Court. Long said the suspect’s name would be released Monday.

According to Long, witnesses saw Wright, of Verona, standing outside a Clement Circle residence around 2 p.m. Thursday. They heard a single gunshot and saw someone driving away in a white car, possibly a Nissan Altima, with tinted windows.

Wright was transported to the North Mississippi Medical Center with a single gunshot wound to the abdomen. According to Lee County Coroner Carolyn Green, Wright died at the hospital at 4:35 p.m.

Long never got a chance to talk to the victim to get information on the shooting.
