VARDAMAN - Autopsy results have confirmed that the Monday morning shooting death of a Vardaman man was a homicide.

Calhoun County Coroner Gene Beadle said autopsy results confirmed that Anthony M. Alford, 45, died as a result of a gunshot wound to his head.

The state pathologist who conducted the autopsy was able to retrieve a .38-caliber bullet from Alford's body.

Mississippi Highway Patrol crime investigators and the Calhoun County Sheriff's Department are continuing to investigate the shooting.

Sheriff Billy Mac Gore said the shooting was reported about 6 a.m. Monday morning by Alford's wife.

No information was available Tuesday night about any possible arrests in the case.
