WEST POINT - A West Point woman died Monday after being struck by lightning at a family cookout.
Delisa Collins, 25, was retrieving food from a grill under a tree at her home east of West Point when her family reported hearing a loud boom, said Clay County Deputy Medical Examiner Paula Massey.
Her family found her lying on the ground, Massey said. She was dead on arrival at Clay County Medical Center.
Chief County Medical Examiner Alvin Carter and Massey said a lightning strike was the cause of Collins' death.
