OXFORD - The Ole Miss women's basketball team exploded for a season-high point total as the Rebels beat Southeastern Louisiana 85-51 on Saturday afternoon.
For Ole Miss (6-3), freshman six-footer Pa'Sonna Hope recorded a career-high 20 points while junior forward Nikki Byrd added her first double-double of the season with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
The Rebels opened with a 10-2 run to take the upper hand against SE Louisiana (5-3).
"We've started slow in games this year and we've always been a hole to start," Ole Miss coach Renee Ladner said. "We started with pressure today and it worked to our advantage."
Two area newcomers kicked in double-figure scoring efforts for the Rebels - freshman Kenyotta Jenkins (Potts Camp) with 13 points and sophomore Maggie McFerrin (Tupelo) with 11.
Ole Miss will host Mississippi Valley State on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
n Mississippi State 61, Utah 52: The Bulldogs roared to a 33-21 halftime lead and improved to 5-2 with the victory, which closed a four-game homestand. Utah fell to 4-7.
MSU's scoring leader, senior Mary Kathryn Govero, was shut out on 0 for 4 shooting in 34 minutes of action. Junior guard Diamber Johnson (Pontotoc) helped pick up the slack with 24 points, improving on her previous career high of 17.
Porsha Porter added 15 points and Ashley Brown had 11 points and a team-high 10 rebounds.
The Lady Bulldogs return to the road for a Wednesday night contest at Southern Miss.
