Brenda Delois Buchanan-Swing

OKOLONA – 58, passed away on Sat., Sept. 19, 2020 at her residence Okolona.

Brenda Delois Buchanan-Swing was born to Waverly C. McClendon and the late Martha Buchanan On Oct. 25, 1961 in Mississippi.

Brenda Swing is survived by her father; Waverly C. McClendon of Okolona. Her special friend; Lorenzo Sims of Okolona. Two sons; Demarcus K. Swing (Britany) of Booneville and Mario C. Swing (Shawanaca) of Tupelo. Five sisters; Glenda Payne (Gregory) of Tupelo, Addine Isabell (J.R.) of Okolona, Gaynell Bolden of Shannon, Mary Stewart of Okolona, and Shelia Collins (Tyrone) of Tupelo. Two brothers; Waverly C. McClendon, Jr. and Timothy McClendon both of Okolona. There are also 17 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

The visitation will be Fri., Sept. 25, 2020 from 4-6 p.m. at the Williams Memorial Chapel. The service will be Sat., Sept., 26, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Okolona Oddfellows Cemetery with Pastor Linda Walker officiating. Face masks are mandatory.

PONTOTOC/HOLLY SPRINGS – Ozella Bradley, 100, passed away Wednesday, September 16, 2020, at Holly Springs Nursing & Rehab in Holly Springs. Services will be on Saturday, September 26 at 1:00 at Union Baptist M.B. Church Cemetery. Burial will follow at Union Baptist Cemetery.

Jimmie Hotard

OKOLONA – 82, passed away on Wed., Sept. 23, 2020 at NMMC in Tupelo.

Jimmie Norris Hotard was born to his late parents, Abby Hotard and Olivia Breaux on July 11, 1938 in Louisiana.

Jimmie Hotard is survived by his wife, Audrey Marie Hotard of 16 years. Six daughters; Janet (Ace) Sapia, Paula (Kenny) Sapia, Sharon (Dale) Rome, Mary (Darrelle) Gulbsy, Michelle (Moe) Sapia, and Nancy Falcon all of Louisiana. Four sons; Jimmy Hotard, Jr. of Louisiana, Arnold Hotard (Vicki) of Shannon, Steven Hotard of Louisiana, and David (Tammy) Hotard of Louisiana. One sister; Diane Fonseca of Louisiana. Two brothers; Rudy Hotard and Randy Hotard both of Louisiana. Five stepchildren; Melissa (Dany) of Okolona, Dody (Rick) Maben of Nettleton, Angelina Meza of Houlka, Harry (Amber) Dempster, Jr. of Okolona, Mike (Billie) Dempster of Shannon. There are a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Jimmie Norris Hotard was preceded in death by Bobby Dempster, Joyce Bearden, Kayla Dempster, and Adam Roberts.

The visitation will be from 4-5 p.m. at Pleasant Grove MBC located at 779 CR 506 in Shannon with Pastor Rick Griffin officiating. Face masks are required. The service will begin immediately after at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Houlka.

Williams Memorial is in charge of all arrangements.

PONTOTOC – Bobby Walls, 52, passed away Sunday, September 20, 2020, at Regional One Medical Center in Memphis, TN. Services will be on 2PM, Friday, September 25, 2020 at Cooke Memorial Baptist Church. Visitation will be on Thursday, September 24, 5-8PM and Friday, September 25, 12PM until service time at Cooke Memorial Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Redland Cemetery.

Mary Ruth Steward

RANDOLPH – Mary Ruth Steward, 87, passed away on September 24, 2020, at NMMC in Tupelo. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Tutor Memorial Funeral Home.

Willam Guyle Taylor

PONTOTOC – William Guyle Taylor, 51, passed away Sunday, August 23, 2020 in Calhoun County. He was born January 7, 1969 to James Taylor and Terry Holley. He worked in furniture for years before starting his own contracting business. He always had a smile on his face and was the life of the family. He cherished his family with every fiber of his soul. He never met a stranger and was loved by everyone he met.

William is survived by his wife, Brenda Taylor; mother, Terry Waldo; his daughters, Kayla Taylor (Dusty), Christy Busby (Ryan), Samantha Brown (Heath), and Kelly Young (Steven) all of Pontotoc; his sons, William Taylor, Jr. (Elizabeth) and Zachary Taylor; 17 grandchildren and one great-grandson on the way.

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Bryleigh Taylor; father, James Taylor, and stepfather, Milton Waldo.

Services were Thursday, August 27, 2020 at 2PM at Tutor Memorial Funeral Home in Pontotoc with Bro. Jerry Smith and Bro. Don Newton officiating. Burial followed in Antioch Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery. Tutor Memorial Funeral Home of Pontotoc was in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers: Thomas Warren, Danny Dacosta, Danny Franklin, Dusty Mason, Steven Young, and Ryan Lee. Honorary Pallbearers: Wade Taylor, Scott Taylor, and Johnny Taylor.

Sharon Frazier

HAMILTON – Sharon Frazier, 53, passed away Wednesday, September 23, 2020, at Courtyards Nursing Home in Fulton. Services will be on Friday, September 25, 2020 at 3 p.m. at Fig Hill Church of God. Joyce Shelby Moody

TIPPAH COUNTY – Joyce Shelby Moody, 66, passed away Tuesday, September 22, 2020, at her residence in Walnut. Graveside services will be at 4 PM Sunday, September 27 at Medlock Cemetery near Ashland. Visitation will be on Sunday, September 27 from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM at The Memory Chapel of Ripley Funeral Home.

Dorothy “Dot” L. Widman Hester

CASON COMMUNITY – Dorothy “Dot” L. Wildman Hester, 84, passed away on Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at North Mississippi Medical Center, Tupelo, MS. Born on July 13, 1938, in Tippah County, Ripley, MS, she was the daughter of the late William Wildman and Lillie Mae Adams Wildman Reynolds.

Dot grew up in Ripley, later moved to Monroe County. She attended Cason School, played basketball and graduated with the class of 1955. On December 23, 1961, she married the love of her life, Harlon Lee Hester. They adopted a son, Vince, and together they were blessed with many happy years. Dot worked in nursing for several years and some of the facilities she worked at included Gilmore Hospital and P & S Clinic. She retired as a nurse and continued to work as a Walmart cashier for many years.

She loved the Lord and was a member of Cason Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school. She liked to listen to Gospel music. In her free time, she enjoyed watching sports on tv, like the Boston Celtics, and in person she liked watching basketball. Horses were her passion and from 1961-1974, she competed in local horse shows. Dot also enjoyed taking care of family, especially her Mam Maw and her little dog “Tiny”. She loved God, her husband Harlan, family, and friends, especially her close friend, Linda Maxey. She will be missed dearly by her family and friends.

Dot is survived by her husband of 58 years, Harlan, Amory; brother, Billy Wildman (Harriett), Nettleton; sister-in-law, Marie Wildman, Nettleton; niece, Dianne Wildman; nephew, Jerry Wayne Wildman; cousins, Judy Pryor, Tupelo, Marcie Barreau, Mooresville; special friends, Patsy Ryan and Sue Maxey.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Vince Hester; brother, Buddy Wildman; niece, Billy Joe Wildman; nephew, Ricky Wildman; step-father, Scott Reynolds.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, September 25, 2020, at 12:00 pm, E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory, MS with Bro. Jim Manley and Bro. Matt Long. Burial will be at Liberty Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Larry Maxey, Roger Dean, Jason Dean, Noel Jones. Honorary Pallbearer will be Louis Dean.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 10:00 am until the service hour on Friday, September 25, 2020.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN.

TUPELO – Jerry Gail Griffin, born October 17, 1949 to Clara and Vaudry Griffin, passed away September 23, 2020 while battling Covid-19. Born and raised in Tupelo, MS and a graduate of Mississippi State, Jerry is survived by wife Mary Ann and sons Stephen and Kevin along with 3 grandchildren. A fan of drinking coffee from a saucer, cutting his grass barefoot, trading stories with his brothers over a second helping, listening to baseball on the radio, and sneaking treats to his grandchildren, Jerry will be deeply missed. Jerry was known amongst friends and family for his generosity and unexpected compassion. We are all thankful for sharing his time in this crazy world.

BALDWYN – Dorothy “Dot” Coggins passed away on Thursday, September 24, 2020 at the The Traceway Greenhouse in Tupelo. She enjoyed quilting, flowers and gardening. She had worked in a factory, restaurant and the Baldwyn Police Department. She was a member of the Church of Christ.

Funeral services will be at Waters Funeral Home on Friday, September 25, 2020 at 5:00 p.m. with Bro. Robert McCoy officiating. Burial will be in Prentiss Memorial Gardens.

She is survived by her daughters, Donna McCullough, Lisa Cates (Cliff), JoAnn Collum (Danny); sons, Rex Coggins (Diannah) and Mike Coggins (Lisa); (17) grandchildren; (25) great-grandchildren; host of other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, David and Massie Lewey McKinney; husband, Henry Coggins; brothers, Dalton Cooledge McKinney and Charles McKinney; sister, Christene Gossett, Estell Willis, Irma Saint and Nettie Middelton; sons, William Harold Coggins, John G. Coggins and Ronnie W. Coggins.

Visitation will be at Waters Funeral Home Friday evening from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m.
