Cecil H. Gunter

BLUE SPRINGS – Cecil H. Gunter , 76, passed away November 2, 2019. He was born in Temple Hill, SC, August 20, 1943 to Hugh and Edna Gunter. He was a 1960 graduate of Wilson High School, Florence, SC. Also, Morgan State University, MD, the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Miami.

He was a medical organ transport professional, specializing in kidney transports. As a member of the NAACP, Cecil was instrumental in desegregating the lunch counter at Kress Department Store in Florence, SC. He is honored with a place in the Florence Museum.

He is survived by his wife Hazel Gunter, daughters; Karen Gunter of PA and Ginna Douglas Morehouse of MS, son; Toby Gunter of TX, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, sisters; Lois James and Essie Gross of MD, brother; Hugh Gunter, Jr. (Barbara) of Warrenville, OH.

Visitation: Friday, November 8, 4-6 p.m. at Serenity-Simmons Funeral Home Chapel, New Albany, MS. Funeral Service: Saturday, November 9, 11:00 a.m. at Red Hill Baptist Church, Blue Springs, MS.

Joey Guin

MANTACHIE – Joey Dewayne Guin (62) passed away Tuesday, November 5, 2019 at the Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. He was of Baptist faith. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching wrestling and playing with his dog “Little Bit.” Services are 2 pm Friday, November 8, 2019 at Parkers Chapel Baptist Church with Bro. Keith Thomas, Bro. Douglas Kitchens and Bro. Ray Guin officiating. Burial will be in the Kirkville Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 11 am until service time at 2 pm at the church. Kesler Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

He is survived by his daughter, Tiffany Farley (Jason) of Fulton; his brother, Ray Guin of Ozark; his sisters, Vicky Nanney (Leslie) of New Albany and Susan Lansdell (Phil) of Unity; his father, Marlice Guin of Mantachie and his grandchildren, Drew Stanford, Brandon Langley, Alyssa Farley, Ethan Farley, John Farley and Kaylee Farley. He was preceded in death by his son, Jamie Guin; his mother, Leauve Guin and his sister-in-law, Judy Guin. Pallbearers are; Jason Farley, Chris Guin, Ethan Farley, Brandon Langley, Nick Lansdell, Donnie Wooldridge and Darrell Wooldridge. Honorary pallbearers are Russell Smith and Evan Lansdell. Terry Wayne Tigrett, Jr.

TIPPAH COUNTY – Terry Wayne Tigrett, Jr., 42, resident of Blue Mountain, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes on Tuesday October 29, 2019 at his residence.

Per Terry’s request, private services are planned. Arrangements will be provided by The Ripley Funeral Home.

Terry, Jr. was born January 8, 1977 in Aurora, Illinois, the son of Terry Wayne Tigrett, Sr. (Jan) of Blue Mountain and the late Barb Stonesipher. He received his education in the East Aurora Public School System and was currently employed with Ashley Furniture Corporation in Ripley.

A Christian and avid book reader, Terry Jr. moved to Tippah County three years ago. He had a lifelong passion for martial arts and will be remembered for his love of fishing and watching movies.

Terry Jr. is also survived by his fiancee, Kimberly Klingel, two children, MadisonTigrett and Tristian Bednard, two stepchildren, Samantha and Jacob Klingel and two sisters, Angela and Jodeen Tigrett.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Chris Tigrett.

The family request that memorials be directed to the church of charity of the donor’s choice.
