Artful Impressions'

Student art reception

honors their creativity

The Daily Journal's annual underwriting of a reception honoring Lee County Public Schools' students whose art hangs in exhibition at the Gumtree Museum of Art is one of our company's long-standing civic investments.

The reception for this year's "Impressions" is Sunday at 1 p.m., concluding at 3 p.m.

The refreshments always are popular, but the art is the main course, and the range of creativity and maturity is, well, impressive.

Later this spring, an exhibit will feature art from the Tupelo Public Schools.

We encourage people who love and appreciate art to attend. The talent of young painters and sketchers and designers always reveals something of their inner motivations as well as their good instruction. It's fun, too, to watch the artists if they continue developing their gifts as styles and interests change and mature.

The show, of course, is free, and it will hang until March 15 under the watchful and supportive eye of the museum's staff and volunteers.
