June Byrd, nee Coker, of Arlington, TX, 81, passed away June 3, 2019 peacefully at home. She graduated from Pontotoc High School and attended Itawamba College. She married Lester Byrd on December 30, 1960. June and Les travelled widely while Les served as a pilot in the US Navy, including long stays in Japan and California. They settled in Arlington Texas to raise their two sons, Jeff and Scott, when Les became a pilot for Delta Airlines in 1967. In Les' retirement years, they spent more time in Pontotoc with family and friends. June was an avid bridge player, reaching the Life Master level, and was a formidable cook and seamstress.
A graveside service was held in the Pontotoc City Cemetery on Saturday, June 8, 2019. Bro. Marcus Coward officiated. Tutor Memorial Funeral Home of Pontotoc was in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include her husband-Lester Morgan Byrd, son- Jeff (Ellie) Byrd, 3 grandchildren- Rachel Byrd of New York, NY, Natalie Byrd and Aaron Byrd of Burlingame, CA. She was preceded in death by one son- Scott Byrd.

Corey Davis II
Corey K. Davis II (Mook) was born February 17, 1993 to Vickie Carouthers (Kelvin) and Corey Davis (Kay) in Lee county. He departed this life Wednesday, June 5, 2019 in Pickens Al. He was a member of Mt. Olive M. B. Church in Baldwyn. He attended Baldwyn High School. He worked for several companies and most recently Dobb's Trucking Company in New Albany, MS. 
He became an owner/operator of his own truck and even creating and patenting the company name "R.T.G." which stands for Real Trucka Gang. Corey also had a love for singing. He shared his passion as a member of the gospel group Souls of Creation. He was full of joy and laughter which was spread upon each person he met. 
Corey is survived by his parents, Vickie Carouthers (Kelvin) and Corey Davis (Kay); his daughter, Braeleigh Davis; 5 brothers, D. J. Burress (Tiffany), Bryson Miller (Audrey), Randall Beene, Blake Staples, and Jayland Carouthers; 1 sister, Rhaegan Garmon; his grandmother, Bessie Lowe; 2 special nephews, Aiden and Ethan Burress; special aunt, Tabitha Davis; a host of nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Mildred Griffin; grandfather, Robert Davis; great-grandmother, Allene Billups and great grandfather, Will T. Burress. 
Funeral services were Sunday, June 9, at Mt. Olive M. B. Church in Baldwyn. Burial was in the church cemetery. Agnew & Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Family and friends may sign the guestbook at www.agnewandson.com
Tommy Young 
Tommy Wayne Young, 60, passed away Thursday, June 6, 2019 at his home. Tommy was retired from the City of Pontotoc after 30 plus years of service. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. Tommy was a devoted husband of 34 years and father who was very proud of his girls.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon Austin Young; his daughters, Kassidy Young and Kelsie and Sam Cruse; his mother, Shirley Young; his sister, Donna and Brad Lunn; four nieces; one nephew; two great nephews and one great niece.
He was preceded in death by his father, Don Young; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Hilliard Young and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Morrison.
Services were Sunday, June 9, at Baldwin Memorial Funeral Home in Pontotoc with Bro. Steve Parrish officiating. Baldwin Memorial Funeral Home of Pontotoc was in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers were Steve Crouch, Lee Hatcher, Nathan Owens, Nick Owens, Rusty Collums and Braden Lunn.
Honorary Pallbearers were Cotton Owens and Ty Collums.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Sanctuary Hospice House.
Charles Ray Boyd
Charles Ray Boyd, 61, passed away Tuesday May 21, 2019 at his residence in Pontotoc following an extended illness.
Private family services are planned. Arrangements will be provided by New Albany Funeral & Cremation Care.
Mr. Boyd was born March 23, 1958 in Arkansas, the son of the late Charles and Ann Adkins Boyd. He was a graduate of Oxford High School and employed in the manufacturing industry that included Ashley Furniture Corporation.
A Christian, Mr.Boyd will be remembered as an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed motorcycles and gardening. 
Survivors include his wife, Denise Jenkins Boyd, of Pontotoc, a daughter, Rachel Coleman (Jesse) of Oxford, a son, Rusty Boyd (Julia) of Oxford, a sister, Melinda Medford (Sonny) of Fayetteville, AR, brother, Gary Boyd, of New Albany, four grandchildren, Michael Fortner, Abigail Boyd, Timothy And Rebecca Bratton and a great grandson, Bowen Simmons.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Charles Douglass Boyd.

Merle Williams
Merle Lee Williams, age 87, passed away on Sunday, June 9, 2019 at Diversicare in Ripley, MS. He was born September 4, 1931 to Leroy Williams and Geneva Brandon Williams. He was a member of Victory Baptist Church. Merle was the owner of Merle Williams Auto Service for over 40 years. He was a member of the Pontotoc Masonic Lodge #81 and a Shriner. Merle enjoyed working on cars, boating, fishing and camping.
Services will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at Browning Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Doug Jones and Rev. Philip Jackson officiating, burial will follow in the Victory Cemetery. Browning Funeral Home in Pontotoc is honored to assist the family.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Recie Matkins Williams; two daughters, Linda Williams of Brandon, FL and Brenda Williams Gotlen (Jimmie Allred) of Seffner, FL; two grandsons, Danny Todd and Jason Todd (Amanda), both of Pontotoc, MS; and four great grandchildren, Kaycee Todd, Mason Todd, Zachary Todd and Averie Todd.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his three brothers, Earl Williams, Preston Williams and Glen Williams and a great-grandson, Collin Joseph Todd.
Pallbearers will be Mike Montgomery, Red Tutor, Chris Matkins, Ricky Hill, Mark Jones and Steve Bramlett.
Visitation will  continue today beginning at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Romey ‘Pete' Wilson
Romey "Pete or Papa" Lee Wilson, 94, passed away Saturday, June 8, 2019 at NMMC-Tupelo. He was born on October 9, 1924 to Archie and Liddie Lee Wilson, the 5th of 10 children. Pete was proceeded in death by his loving wife of 70 years, Mable Graham Wilson. Pete served in WWII as a combat infantry M-1 rifle sharpshooter in the 135 Regiment, 34 Division where at the age of 17 was MIA for two weeks in Italy. Before being honorably discharged due to injury sustained from grenade shrapnel, he received the Service Medal, Good Conduct and a Purple Heart. Pete was a long time member of McGregor Chapel Baptist Church and truly loved the Lord. Our Papa was one of the most kind and loving men you could have ever met.
Survivors include his son, Steve Wilson (Sherry); his grandchildren, Stevie Wilson (Hyla), Rebecca Wilson, and Josh Wilson; and 8 great grandchildren.
He was proceeded in death by his wife and a son, Jimmy Wilson.
Services were Tuesday, June 11, at Tutor Memorial Funeral Home in Pontotoc with Bro. Calvin Warren and Bro. Jimmy Russell officiating. Burial was  in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Tutor Memorial Funeral Home of Pontotoc was in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers were Stevie Wilson, Josh Wilson, Ben Wilson, Chandler Moody, Cody Robbins and Matt Whisenant.
Kenneth Cummings
Kenneth Cummings, age 70, passed away on Saturday, June 8, 2019 at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. He was born July 16, 1948 to Grover D. Cummings and Maria Elana "Margie" Caballero Cummings. He was a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church. Kenneth was a 1966 graduate of Pontotoc High School and was self-employed. He was a member of the MS Cattleman's Association. Kenneth was in the MS National Guard. He enjoyed watching the Atlanta Braves, riding four wheelers and spending time with his friends and grandchildren.
Services were Tuesday, June 11, at Oak Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Marty Browning and Rev. Greg Herndon officiating; burial was in Lee Memorial Park in Verona. Browning Funeral Home in Pontotoc was in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Dianne Presley Cummings; his daughter, Kym Daniel (Brady) of New Albany, MS; two sons, Scott Cummings (Becki) and Cody Cummings (Kayla), both of Pontotoc, MS; a sister, Gloria Cartwright (Terry) of Corinth, MS; a brother, Bob Cummings (Lynn) of Richland, MS; five grandchildren, Hayden Cummings (Heather), Heston Daniel, Hayes Daniel, Adalyn Cummings and Audrey Cummings; and one great-granddaughter, Haisley Faith Cummings.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Pallbearers will be Mike Westmoreland, Billy Terry, Ellis Reeder, Travis Pickering, Ted Foster and Bobby Duke. Honorary Pallbearers will be Billy Belk, Erskine Barton, Greg Hall, David Hall, Sammy Cruse and the "8 o'clock breakfast men at Butcher Block".

Delma Lathel ‘D.L.’ Ward
Delma Lathel Ward, 86, passed away June 8, 2019, at his home. Lathel was a retired cattleman, business owner of Magnolia Furniture for 35 years, and a veteran of the US Air Force. His hobby was working hard providing for his family. Lathel was a devoted husband and father, he loved and adored his children.
Lathel is survived by his wife, Rita Ann Ward; his children, Clint Ward (Lisa), Brad Ward(Mitzi), Melita Chunn(Terry), Rita Gaye Whitlock, Angie Roye (Scott) and Dusty Ward (Holly); 18 grandchildren, Shunda Gillespie, Brody Ward, Lacie Bain, Lathel Ward, Laila Kate Ward, August Collums, Jessica Hamilton, Chandler Brazil, Molly Chunn, Kyle Fallin, Eden Caballero, Destiny Wade, Bailey Whitlock, Ella Grace Ward, Reese Ward, Yates Ward, Hannah Roye and Gatlin Roye; 21 great grandchildren; his brother, Guyson Ward; sisters, Olene Patterson, Vida Adams, and Gwenda Sprayberry and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Delma Ward; his mother, Attie Ward; his brothers, Reese Ward and Doug Ward; his sisters, Wilma Finley and Eva Harrison; his granddaughters, Emilee and Erin Whitlock.
Services were Monday, June 10, at Hopewell Primitive Baptist Church with Bro. Tommy Bouchillon and Bro. Ed Easley officiating. Burial was in Glasgow Cemetery. Baldwin Memorial Funeral Home of Pontotoc was in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers were Champ Finley, Jimmy Dale Adams, Randy Ward, Anthony George Ward, Jock Adams and Joey Ward.
Honorary Pallbearers were Jerry Lamberth, Billy Terry, J.R. Sewell and Buddy Collins.
Vernell Dixon
Vernell Dixon , 81, passed away on June 08, 2019, at her home in Pontotoc. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Serenity Autry Funeral Home of Pontotoc.
