Cougar, Viking XC gear up for home stretch at Corinth

With less than two weeks remaining before the region/division championship races, the Cougars traveled to Corinth Saturday to compete in the Corinth Invitational and continue their quest to round into peak form. The Lady Cougars enjoyed another excellent day, posting a fourth place finish and average time of 18:49.

Anna Bailey was again the top runner and posted one of her best races of the year, a fifth place 17:43. Bailey was followed in the top five by Mattie Mills (17th-18:43), Nikki Waldo (22nd), Belle Mills (32nd), and Shelby Holloway (38th). On the boy’s side, Josh Bland led the pack with a 12th place showing (19:19), followed closely by Drew Roye at 13th (19:21). Eric Garcia, Logan Rainwater, and Austin Rainwater finished out the South lineup. Top junior high runners for South were Hayes Robbins (boys) and Abigail Bland (girls).


Coach Tabitha Quillian has said all year she looks for her squad to improve enough throughout the year to post their best day at the division meet, and Saturday was an important race as that date draws closer.

Josh Tutor continued his excellent individual season with a top ten finish, coming in 8th with a 19:08. Tutor was followed by Aaron Chapman (18th), Hunter Burleson (28th), Austin Reeder (36th) and Justin Ferguson in the top five. Dawson McCord, Devin Bennett and Josh McCord also competed.

In junior high action, Jake Reeder barely missed out on another top 20 finish, while Abigail Boyd was again the top runner for the girls Both teams are scheduled to compete Saturday in the Tupelo Invitational.
