The Pontotoc boys golf team continued their strong play last week, as the Warriors posted first and second place finishes in their two matches. PHS is currently 10-2 on the year.
Last Monday the Warriors traveled to Fulton Country Club, where they shot a 166 to top Amory (196) and Itawamba AHS (244). A.J. Martin and John Mark Mills were co-medalists.
On Thursday Pontotoc was back at home, where they narrowly came in second to winner Tupelo Christian Prep (171) after posting a score of 177. The Warriors beat out third place North Pontotoc (200), fourth place South Pontotoc (205) and fifth place Tishomingo County (218).
Martin was the medalist with a round of 35.
"Last week I thought we played pretty good overall," said Pontotoc coach Curt Sparks. "I would like to see us get a little more consistent with our scores, but that's just part of learning what you need to do on the course to be successful. We have been getting some pretty good play from AJ Martin and our younger guys have stepped up a lot for us to start the year off really well. We still have work to do in order for us to compete for a regional championship."
