RIPLEY – Over 170 runners from all over northeast Mississippi and beyond turned out to participate in the My Choices 5k Run4Life and 3k walk on Saturday.
The run, which helped raise funds for the My Choices Pregnancy Help Clinic in Ripley, saw athletes from various age groups and athletic backgrounds come together for a morning of friendly competition. Past and present members of Tippah County’s various sports teams took part, as well as local community leaders, experienced cross-country runners, and other members of the community willing to try their hand at the roughly 3.1 mile long run.
Jesus Ruedas placed first overall and first among men with a time of 19.25, with Celique Willams coming in second with a time of 19.53. Alex Tatum finished third with a time of 20.51.
Amanda Balof finished first among women with a 24.29 time, with Jazzie Smithey placing second with a time of 24.54. Heather White finished third with a time of 25.56.
Several awards were given at the conclusion of the race across the various age groups, ranging from the 0-9 age group all the way up to 75+. Runners who completed the race, as exhausted as they may have been, were met with cheers and encouragement from event organizers and other runners alike, showing the sense of community and cooperation that normally comes with an event such as the My Choices 5k.
