RIPLEY • On Tuesday, July 6, Opal Turner, a resident at the Tippah County Health and Rehab nursing home, celebrated her 100th birthday. Friends and staff gathered around to throw her a surprise party, and even mayor Jon Grisham came to celebrate the special lady. Staff members said that everyone loves her, and that was evident at the party.
The staff of Tippah County Health and Rehab decorated the celebration with her own handmade quilts and even gave her a quilt-themed birthday cake. After seeing that all her friends and even family members had surprised her, Turner was overjoyed.
Residents said that they do not have big celebrations like this often, so everyone enjoyed the occasion. Staff members said that Turner is “still sharp as a tack” and enjoys every day that she gets.
