The Major League Baseball Draft gets underway tonight with several area standouts expected to hear their name called over the next three days.
Mississippi State pitcher Ethan Small is rated the No. 56 prospect in the draft by MLB.com while Bulldog center fielder Jake Mangum is ranked the 171st best player.
Ole Miss has four players among the MLB top 200 prospects in outfielder Thomas Dillard (114), shortstop Grae Kessinger (128), pitcher Will Ethridge (136) and catcher Cooper Johnson (137).
Ole Miss running back signee Jerrion Ealy is considered the No. 66 prospect in the draft.
Southern Miss outfielder Matt Wallner is rated the 60th best prosoect and former MSU pitcher Graham Ashcraft – now at UAB – is ranked No. 164.
The first two rounds are tonight starting at 6 p.m. on MLB Network. Rounds 3-10 are Tuesday beginning at noon and rounds 11-40 will be Wednesday starting at 11 a.m.
