PEARL – Ole Miss is now in possession of both in-state rivalry trophies.

The Rebels throttled Mississippi State 11-1 Tuesday night to take the Governor’s Cup back to Oxford for the first time since 2012. It was the largest margin of victory in the Governor’s Cup/Mayor’s Trophy series and Ole Miss’ first win at Trustmark Park since 2012.

The Rebels (24-22) stacked up 15 hits in the contest led by Connor Cloyd going 3-for-6 with a career-high four RBIs.

Will Golsan, Colby Bortles, Sikes Orvis, Austin Knight and Cameron Dishon all had two hits each for the Rebels with Bortles, Golsan and Knight collecting doubles.

Scott Weathersby was named the game’s MVP and improved to 3-1 on the year. Weathersby logged seven shutout innings with three strikeouts.

Ole Miss touched up Bulldogs starter Ross Mitchell for two runs in the first inning on a two-run double by Bortles.

The Rebels then went to work on the Mississippi State bullpen by batting around and plating five runs on six hits including a two-run single by Cloyd and RBI singles by Dishon, Golsan and Kyle Watson.

Ole Miss added four runs with two outs in the sixth. Cloyd had a two-run single while Knight knocked in one with a double and Dishon had an RBI single.

The Diamond Dogs were finally able to scratch across a run in the eighth off reliever Sam Smith. Luke Reynolds singled up the middle to score Cody Walker from third.

State had eight hits led by Reynolds’ 3-for-4 evening. Jake Vickerson was also 2-for-5 as the Diamond Dogs dropped to 23-22.
