BOONEVILLE - Falkner's Tour de Pride made its first stop in Booneville Thursday and showed the Blue Devils what speed can do.

Falkner, on probation this season for playing an ineligible player last year, used their superior speedsters to break the game open in the first half with four touchdowns, three forced turnovers and a blocked punt to trounce Booneville 45-7.

"We started pretty good tonight," Falkner coach Ricky Bates said of his Eagles, who piled up 20 second-quarter points. "We just want to give it all we have every week of the regular season and then make folks wonder who has the best 1A football at the end of the season."

The Eagles took advantage of Booneville's keying on their much-heralded running back Edward Prather and were led by a variety of other offensive players - most notably senior quarterback Shino Edgeston, who threw, rushed and returned a punt for touchdowns.

"I noticed everybody on their defense was keying on me and they didn't notice some of the other guys," Prather said.

Falkner exploded for their first score with 5:13 left in the first quarter when Shino Edgeston faked a handoff inside and scampered outside for a 71-yard touchdown with help from Edward Prather's two key blocks to make it 6-0.

"The guy in the middle took the fullback and I got a good block from the wide receiver," said Edgeston. "But I thought overall we really came out prepared tonight."

Booneville looked ready to counter when Eagle linebacker Nick Cathey busted through on fourth and seven from the Falkner 35 to sack Blue Devil quarterback Chuck Spearman, who fumbled.

Falkner went back to work with Shino Edgeston finding Shun Edgeston for a 22-yard gain before Prather took a pitch out of the I-formation and rumbled 34 yards down the right sideline to make it 12-0 early in the second quarter.

Then Falkner shut the door. Eagle defensive end Toussainte Gaillard blocked Daniel Wright's punt on the Blue Devil's next possession and ran 35 yards to set up Falkner on the Booneville seven.

Falkner went up 18-0 when Shino Edgeston lofted a pass into the right corner of the end zone and Shun Edgeston hauled it down for the score.

The Eagles were in control 24-0 by halftime after backup Falkner quarterback Josh Bryan found Shun Edgeston for a 15-yard scoring strike.

Falkner piled on three more touchdowns in the second half with Shino Edgeston returning a punt 80 yards in the third quarter and Nile Palmer and Nathan Palmer scoring from five and 30 yards, respectively, in the fourth.

Booneville's lone score came late in the final period when backup quarterback Kevin Flurry took it up the middle on a keeper from five yards out.
