Pontotoc edges Corinth; Gwyn injured

CORINTH – Pontotoc’s seniors had never beaten Corinth ... until Friday night.

Jacob Carter threw for three touchdowns and Gabe Harmon rushed for 113 yards and scored one TD for the visiting Warriors, who improved to 5-2 and 1-0 in Division 1-4A with a 30-27 win.

Corinth, the preseason favorite to win the division, saw its record fall to 4-3, 0-1. The homestanding Warriors lost starting quarterback Antares Gwyn to an injury with 4:06 remaining is the first half.

Pontotoc had 400 yards total offense, including 11 of 23 passing for 221 yards from Carter. His TD connections went to Jerrick Ray for 16 yards, Gabe Wilson for 35 and Lane McGregor for 17.

Javen Morrison, who replaced Gwyn at QB, had 16 rushes for 203 yards and scored three TDs for Corinth. His runs covered 59, 31 and 1 yard.
