Saltillo’s Charles Covington recently received a national honor.

He was named the boys cross country Coach of the Year by the National High School Athletic Coaches Association, which held its annual convention in late June.

Covington led the Lady Tigers to their fourth-straight state championship last fall, easily beating second-place Brookhaven by 26 points for the Class 5A title. It was the program’s 14th title overall.

Covington also coaches the boys team, with which he’s won seven championships.
