Statesmen

Legendary Delta State baseball coach Boo Ferriss, left, with current Statesmen coach Mike Kinnison in 2009. Ferriss died in 2016.

Mike Kinnison has served as Delta State's head baseball coach since 1997. Last November, he was named the school's athletics director. And on Monday, he announced he will begin the search to find a new head baseball coach, as he has made the decision to step down to become the AD full-time.

He finishes his career as head coach of the Statesmen with a record of 981-313-2, good enough for a .756 winning percentage. Combining his wins in Cleveland with his time in high school, he's won some 1,271 games. In his career, Kinnison averaged 42.5 wins per season. He won 50 or more games five times and 40 or more 15 times.

When he was named AD on November 12, 2018, Kinnison took over for Ronnie Mayers, who retired last December after 42 years of service to DSU. Filling big shoes is something Kinnison has done before, when he took over the baseball program from Dave "Boo" Ferriss and Bill Marchant.
