At Oxford, the Commodores scored on a 6-yard run by Aron Ivy and a 26-yard field goal by Ras Bayles for a 9-0 lead at halftime.

Lafayette County made it 15-0 in the third quarter when Bayles passed 43 yards to Randy Carothers.

Holding Houston to 100 yards of total offense, the Commodores improved to 4-1, while the Mustangs dropped to 2-3.

Houston 34, Bruce 13

At Bruce, the Toppers (4-1) grabbed a 7-0 lead in the first quarter on a touchdown pass from Russell Dendy to Anthony Johnson, capping a 64-yard drive.

Johnson also capped an 80-yard drive with a 32-yard touchdown run, as Houston led 13-7 at the half.

The Toppers put the game away with 21 second-half points: a 13-yard run by Johnson and touchdown runs of 54 and 9 yards by Chico Chandler.

Bruce (1-4) got its points on a 1-yard run by Freddie Bullard in the second quarter and a 1-yard run by Conley Craig in the third quarter.

Chandler led all rushers with 129 yards on 11 carries, while Johnson had 69 yards on seven attempts. Bullard led Bruce with 92 rushing yards on 13 carries.
