Mississippi State rebounded from a loss to Ole Miss on Wednesday to rally and defeat South Carolina 61-56 on Saturday in overtime. Ben Hansbrough sent the game into the extra period when he drained three free throws with 1.1 seconds left in regulation. It was also the first time this year MSU won when trailing at the half. A look ahead
Mississippi State returns home to face Auburn on Wednesday, before traveling to Gainesville on Saturday to battle Florida. Earlier this year, the Bulldogs claimed an 83-64 victory at Auburn, which defeated Alabama 88-76 on Sunday.
With its win against South Carolina, coupled with the fact Kentucky defeated Arkansas, MSU now leads the Western Division by two games over the Razorbacks with four to play.
Mississippi State has clinched a first-round bye in the SEC tournament. ... The Bulldogs have already won more SEC games than a year ago. ... With 214 blocks, MSU is eight shy of tying the school mark of 222 set last year. ... Jarvis Varnado leads the nation with 125 blocks.
