KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Kaitlin Lee scattered five hits in a complete game, and No. 8 seed Ole Miss defeated Mississippi State 2-1 to advance in the SEC softball tournament on Wednesday.
The Rebels will take on No. 1 seed Florida in Thursday’s second round.
The lone run for the Bulldogs (36-20) came on a solo home run by Olivia Golden to lead off the second inning.
Ole Miss took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Elantra Cox led off with a single and came around to score on a two-out hit by Sarah Van Schaik.
The Rebels (37-18) answered Golden’s home run in the bottom of the second when Miranda Strother’s two-out RBI single scored pinch-runner Grayce Majam.
MSU pitchers Cassady Knudsen and Alexis Silkwood held the Rebels to six hits.
