Ripley - Game 1 of the 4A North Half Finals did not disappoint. Corinth and Ripley stood toe-to-toe and fought throughout the game that needed nine innings to decide a winner.
Corinth prevailed with a 6-5 victory Thursday night to take the 1-0 series lead.
The Warriors kicked off the game with a RBI single by Alex Trice in the first inning to take the early lead.
Ripley tied the game in the second inning off of a 2-out error but the Warriors answered back in the third when Baylor Frazier tagged a double off the right-field wall taking a 2-1 lead.
The back and forth action did not stop there. Mason McBride nailed a 1-out triple and then scored on a passed ball to tie things in the bottom half of the third.
The Tigers gained their first lead of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning. Back-to-back singles and a Warrior error had the bases loaded with no outs. Will Long provided a RBI single to put Ripley up 3-2, but the Tigers failed to gain any more insurance runs.
In the top of the seventh, RBI base hits by Jackson Lancaster and Alex Trice gave the Warriors the 4-3 lead.
With one out in the bottom half of the seventh, Jus Medlin cranked a solo homer over the scoreboard to tie the game.
Cooper Cox managed to shut the Warriors offense down in the eighth giving the Tigers another chance to finally end the game.
Ripley loaded the bases yet again with only one out, but the Tigers failed to plate a run.
Corinth's Trice and Frazier came through with back-to-back RBI base hits in the ninth inning sealing the game for the Warriors.
"I thought Cooper (Cox) threw another great game. We didn't get the big hits when we needed them. We left runners all over the bases yet again," said Ripley's Coach Joel Gafford. "We had our opportunities and we didn't capitalize on them and they (Corinth) did."
