ROB WILLIAMS -- On trying to be more than two places at a time

It’s high school basketball playoff time, and four Itawamba teams have already seen some action.

Mantachie had two winners in the first round, and the IAHS Lady Indians will also advance to the second round.

Both the Lady Mustangs and the Mustangs drew Hatley in round one, and both moved on to the next round with easy victories. The Tigers did not reach double figures in any quarter against the Mustangs.

The Tremont Lady Eagles fought hard but were eliminated by Ingomar on Monday night.

The Tremont Lady Eagles and the IAHS Indians played their first round games Tuesday.

First round winners advance to the semi-finals in each division on Thursday, and the finals are Friday night.

Scott Collier and his Mantachie Mustangs had a goal of winning 25 games this season. Due to a scheduling conflict, the Mustangs’ last home game was cancelled, so they finished the regular season with 19 wins. Win No. 20 came Monday night.

To reach their goal, the Mustangs will have to get as far as the North State tournament. Right now, their focus is to finish at least second in the division so they can host the second round. They haven’t been that far in quite a few years, but this may be the season they make it.
