The Tupelo Lady Wave rolled into the second round of the state playoffs with its fourth consecutive win over Olive Branch. The Lady Wave (26-7) won in straight games 15-5, 15-11 to solidify their dominance.

"Our hitting was very good in the first game, although they (Olive Branch) were very aggressive," Tupelo Coach Bert Martin said.

The Lady Wave went up 10-5 in the first game before Olive Branch called time out. The stoppage of play resulted in a Olive Branch side out. Tupelo responded with its own side out and five straight points for the win. The net play of Shay Sherod, Tessera Stimpson and Ebony Gaston were key in the 15-5 win.

The Lady Quisters in the second game went up 5-3 early behind the service of Jori Putts. Errors by Tupelo aided in Olive Branch's early lead.

Following a THS time out and a kill by Gaston, the Lady Wave found themselves down by one. Faren Pollard, then served five unanswered points that gave Tupelo a 9-5 lead.

Olive Branch finally got a side out and regained the lead by scoring seven unanswered points compliments of Savannah Richins' service. The Lady Quisters led 11-9 before Tupelo called its last time out.

"In the time out I told them to keep their composure. Focus is everything," Martin said.

Three Tupelo points before a Olive Branch side out put the Lady Wave up 12-11. A kill by Tupelo's Ashford ended a long rally which proved to be Olive Branch's last offensive possession.

Ashford and Kim Larry got back-to-back kills to give Tupelo a three-point lead. Laurie Black put on the finishing touches with an ace.

Tupelo will host Madison Central Tuesday in the second round of the state playoffs.
