It's playoff time for high school baseball and fast-pitch softball and Tippah County will send four teams to the postseason, including a top seed.
In baseball, the Falkner Eagles (12-9) will represent Div. 1-1A as that No. 1 seed after going 11-1 in league play.
They host No. 4 seed Houlka today at 6 p.m. to start a best-of-three series in Class 1A. They travel to Houlka for Game 2 on Friday at 6 p.m. If necessary, Falkner will host Game 3, Saturday at 2 p.m.
Pine Grove (20-6) finished just behind Falkner and enters the playoffs for the the second year in a row under Will Wallis.
They host No. 3 Hamilton today at 6:30 p.m. Hamilton is the site of Game 2, Friday at 6 p.m. Game 3, if necessary is back at Pine Grove, Saturday at 2 p.m.
In Class 4A, No. 3 Ripley must travel to begin the postseason as they did a year ago. No. 2 Yazoo County hosts today's 5 p.m. game, Ripley will host Game 2 at the same time on Friday and Yazoo County gets Game 3, is needed, Saturday at 1 p.m.
Pine Grove back in fast-pitch playoffs
The Pine Grove Lady Panthers (14-8) are back in the Class 1A fast-pitch softball playoffs after a one-year absence. First-year coach Janna LaBarreare guides Pine Grove into the postseason with a 7-1 record over their last 8 games.
They have a quick turnaround as today's Game 1 of their best-of-three play-in series at Vardaman will be their third game in as many days. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
They'll host Game 2 and Game 3, if necessary, on Friday beginning at 5 p.m.
