WALNUT--Saturday, the Ripley Lady Tigers won their first Walnut Invitational Title since 2008 while the Ripley Tigers won their first. The Lady Tigers grinded out a 56-37 win over the Walnut Lady Wildcats behind 19 points from junior guard Jayla Chills. The Lady Tigers (7-1) swept the tournament with wins against Potts Camp and Ashland. Wynisha Adams led Walnut (4-1), who went 1-1 in the tournament with a win over Potts Camp, with 11 points. Becky Robinson added 10 points. The Tigers used the deep ball to defeat the Walnut Wildcats 65-48 to win the boys’ title. Malik Pearson led with 22 points, while Deion Palmer scored 15 points, connecting on five 3-pointers. The Tigers (6-2) also swept with wins over Potts Camp and Ashland. Junior center Devonte Bell led Walnut (2-3) with 21 points. Cody Haven chipped in 10 points. The Wildcats finished the tournament at 1-1 with a win over Potts Camp.
