MYRTLE--The Ripley High School girls' and boys' varsity squads swept through the Myrtle Christmas Clash Monday and Tuesday. Monday, Becca Ruckes scored a team-high 19 points and Shunquest Howell added 17 to help the Lady Tigers easily defeat the Desoto Central Lady Jaguars 68-50. The Lady Tigers, who enjoyed a 33-23 halftime advantage, doubled the Lady Jaguar scoring effort in the third quarter to blow the game open. They led 51-32 at the start of the fourth quarter. For the Lady Jaguars, Kristen Eley scored a game-high 23 points and Rachel Kelly added 15. In later action, the Ripley Tigers got a game-high 46 points from Acie Vance, including a game-winning three-pointer in overtime to edge the Desoto Central Juagars 84-83. The teams ended regulation tied at 76. It was Vance's fourth 40-plus point game of the season. With less than 5 seconds to play in overtime, Vance took a missed Jaguar free throw attempt the length of the floor and launched a NBA-range three-pointer that found the bottom of the net as time expired. Randy Brown led the Jaguars with 36 points, Bryan Coleman added 20 and Donny Rutherford 11. Tuesday, the Lady Tigers (11-1) had four players in double figures as they ran past the Hickory Flat Lady Rebels 68-28. The Lady Tigers led 21-1 before the Lady Rebels scored their first basket from the floor. Shunquest Howell scored a game-high 17 points, Tosha Graham added 13, Jayla Chills 11 and Becca Ruckes 10. Kalisha Moore paced the Lady Rebels with 15 points. The Tigers (9-4) got 32 points from Acie Vance and 12 Anfernee Rutherford to defeat the Ingomar Falcons 77-71. The win avenged last year's loss to Ingomar in the same tournament. The Tigers led 45-35 at halftime and held off the Falcons, who got as close as 54-53 with one minute to play in the third quarter. The Falcons had four players in double figures. Wesley Jumper lead with 29, Tanner McCollum added 20, including 10 in the final quarter, while Steven Foster and Darius Siddell added 11 each.
