RIDGELAND--Saturday, Oct. 20, Ripley junior swimmer Rachel Dees won two 1st place events and eighth grader Drew Sullivan was 2nd in two events at the MHSAA North Swim Championships in Ridgeland. Both will compete for a swimming state title this Saturday at the MHSAA State Swimming Championships at the Delta State University Aquatic Center. Dees won the North 100-meter butterfly in 1:01.13 and the 100-meter breaststroke in 1:09.09. Her time in the breast was faster than the Class II winner, a division above Dees' Class I. "She's a really good swimmer, said Tupelo coach Lucas Smith, who coaches Dees on the Tupelo Shockwave's year-round team. "She's a trainer. She's pretty good at everything." Ripley Middle School eighth grader Drew Sullivan finished second in the 200-meter freestyle in 2:01.37 and second in the 100-meter backstroke in 1:01.16.
