RIPLEY - Total Body Gym hosted a charity bench press competition on Saturday, June 22 with the proceeds going to an organization called Together for Tippah.
Together for Tippah is non-profit organization that was founded in June 2015 by Tippah County residents who's goal is to provide help tho those who are in need within the area.
The competition ranged between both male and female competitors from ages 13 and up. In the adult divisions, the lifters were split according to their weight with one division solely for men who were above the age of 45.
In the 13-17 male division, Jeremiah Mitchell took home first place, benching 225 pounds. Jake Bateman followed in second place then Dylan Mayo rounded out the top three. In the 13-17 females division, Christa Hannah benched 95 pounds to claim first place. Dianne Holman earned the top spot in the women's under 145 pounds division with her press of 170 pounds. Christa Hannah won the women's over 150 pounds division with a press of 235 pounds.
In the men's lightweight division, Levi Shaw placed first (385 pounds), Josh Bateman finished second (370 pounds), Tate Perry landed in third (295 pounds) and Matthew Lewis finished fourth with 275 pounds.
The men's middleweight division saw one of the most impressive lifts of the day when Michael Miller threw up 510 pounds to win the group. Marvin Mitchell earned second place honors with his 405-pound lift.
In the men's heavyweight division, Derek Holman threw up the most weight in the entire competition with his 520-pound bench press to take first place. Wesley Wilson landed in second place followed by Joseph Smithey in third.
In the final group of the day, Johnny Cole and Timmy Gaillard finished tied for first place in the men's 45 years or older group.
