LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Blue Mountain College shut out Philander Smith on Tuesday in non-conference play 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-18).

Julianna Taylor (SO/Bear Creek, Ala.) had a spectacular night, recording a double-double with 13 kills and 12 digs, while hitting .387 and getting three aces.

Lainey Jackson (JR/Toledo, Ill.) was her usual self, notching 34 assists, and Carissa Mulford (JR/Jay, Fla.) had eight kills.

Grace Gray (FR/Potts Camp, Miss.) provided steady defense, handling 18 digs for the Volley Toppers.

As a team, Blue Mountain hit .196, while holding Philander to just a .029 hitting percentage.

"Tonight was a good win for us on the road," Topper head coach Reid Gann commented. "I'm very proud of the energy and hustle we played with. Defending their outside hitters was key for us coming into this game, and I thought we did a solid job not allowing them to get going."

BMC improves to 9-16 overall in its inaugural season, while staying at 2-9 in the SSAC.

They return to action Friday, hosting Faulkner in SSAC play at 7 p.m. at the Ripley Event Center in Ripley, Miss.
